St. George is the patron saint of Britain. This website says ,however, that most people in England celebrate St. George’s day as just another day.
Others know that Shakespeare was also born and died on this same day.
St. George frequently appears in Mummers’ Plays during Easter and Christmas celebrations. Mummers’ Plays have been performed in Britain for hundreds of years. They are folk dramas based on the legend of St. George and the Seven Champions of Christendom.
St. George’s day is April 23 where people around the world celebrate English heritage and patriotism. For those of you who are integrating holidays from around the world as part of your global competency, this is a great lesson to study about Britain. This is a collection of lesson plans on the topic.
