The Horizons of Education: Depicted in Video by NetGen

Students have analyzed the future of college education by doing their own authentic research on this year's 2011 Horizon Report by the New Media Consortium and Educause.

These students have have mashed up the technology with the characteristics of their generation as defined by the research of Don Tapscott and co-authorship of Anthony Williams in their book Grown Up Digital and written their own collaborative wiki with the results.

The students have created individual videos with outsourced clips from their partners around the world: over 160 of them.

The videos have been evaluated in two phases: first with a rubric to meet minimum requirements, citation of sources, etc. and then, the rubric was “thrown out” and the videos that were in the top three in each category were reviewed by a meta-judge who ranked for the best overall story.

This is the Net Gen Education project 2011: run once a year through our Flat Classroom Projects with the support and keynote address of author Don Tapscott and the resources on how to make videos recorded during prior projects by the stunning professionals at Discovery Educators like Hall Davidson, Joe Brunner, and Steve Dembo.

What are the trends shaping education?
