The book group on the Flat Classrooms Ning for conversations between those joining the book club.

The second winning video also advocated the use of games in education. This video won second place. They advocate that games be aligned with content areas and standards so they can be taken from country to country. This is what students want but do we get what they are asking? I think it fascinating that both top ideas include the gamification of education.
This is the winning concept from the Flat Classroom mini-conference in Mumbai. “Jack out the books” is the idea that textbooks should be gamified — “Jack out the books” is their desire for content to be delivered in a more engaging way.
I love this reflection by Mrs. Goggins about how her young students are connecting with kids around the world.
In particular, I enjoy her class handshake video. This is a video intended to help other classrooms get to know your classroom.
“The first session I was in such awe of the ability to meet with so many different educators at the same time that I was just smiling the whole time. My class has been matched up with three other classes, two from the US and one from Australia. We have begun by making a class handshake and watching the other handshakes from other classes. We received a Voicethread handshake from the class in San Francisco, and my class sat watching, mesmerized. I can see how technology is changing the the learning landscape – I would have loved to have been a child and collaborating with other classes globally!”
Michael Graffin's thoughts about global collaboration. He's been working with a set of projects including many teachers. Here's his reflections on global collaboration and the first few 2 chapters in the book.
This is the podcast channel for the Flat Classroom book club for those who want to listen in on the weekly meetings. We hope you'll join us.
